Home: The Nursery!

Bonnie's bedroom is by far my favourite room in the house.  I remember being quite heavily pregnant painting it and adding finishing touches as if it were yesterday. I would spend so much time in there before Bonnie arrived, looking through everything we had bought, setting up the changing table ( how fun is that to do when you're pregnant?!) and wondering what it was going to be like having an actual small person calling the room I spent so much time in their bedroom.

The nursery was originally supposed to be my dressing room, due to the fact that it has an en suite and large fitted wardrobes. It's actually such a perfect room for a dressing room! I knew exactly how it was going to be designed- I had the mood board ready- (I always do a mood board before decorating) with a big round pouffe in the centre of the room and loads of shelves for shoes and bags- I was even going to have my wedding dress framed to put on the wall!
I'm not sure what exactly made me change my mind but we decided to downgrade the dressing room to the box room and have fun decorating the nursery with more room to play with.

The colours I wanted were grey and white, (my mum calls our house 50 shades of grey as its literally the colour of every room!!) as we weren't finding out the sex of the baby so we needed to do the nursery gender neutral. I knew I wanted a white wall with grey spots and I searched and searched for wallpaper of that pattern and I couldn't find any anywhere.  Grey with white was easy to find, but not the other way round.  I ended up finally finding some on Ebay which had to be shipped from Germany.  Once it arrived, I took a spot to B&Q and had the grey matched up and mixed.

We then did the flooring; (Elliott laid this himself) which I was convinced that I wanted to be a laminate and not carpet like the rest of the bedrooms- I'm not entirely sure why! The flooring we purchased from B&Q and its sooo cheap- like one of the cheapest laminate that they have.  If I was to do anything differently, I would have just had carpet in this room. Theres nothing like sneaking in to check on your baby to make you realise how noisy the flooring is in a room! At least it was cheap!

I remember being sooooo excited when I first saw the nursery with the wall paper all done and the skirting boards on. It was like a blank canvas and I couldn't wait to finally do the fun part- dressing out the room.

We got our furniture from Silver Cross- I highly recommend them as they made things so easy.  They come in, build the furniture, set it all out how you want it and take all the packaging away. Easy peasy! The furniture itself is not only beautiful, but grows with the child ( a lot like the Stokke Tripp Trapp) which I like. I went for the Nostalgia set with the sleigh cot bed.

Next was the en suite- I originally wanted to knock through from our bedroom and turn it into a wardrobe which had a door from our bedroom straight into the nursery- (how good would that be?!) as we thought it was a waste having an en suite in the baby's room.  It wouldn't get used by us as we have our own en suite and its not like guests are going to walk through the baby's room to have a shower. Elliott said that the shower needed to be replaced as it had leaked anyway, so as it was ripped out I came up with the idea to replace it with the built in baby bath.  Elliott did the tiling, plumbing and built the unit too. We have set it up so that it can easily be taken out and turned back into a shower in the future.  We fill the bath up with the shower head, which is great as it is at the same set temperature and then it drains like a normal bath, by pulling the plug. ( I know this sounds really simple, but some built in baths you have to empty the water out, this one is plumbed in).

Its funny how we had the deadline of our baby arriving to get the nursery done- and then it really wasn't used until Bonnie was 6 months and stopped sleeping in our room! It is so lovely to see her in the room now that she's a little older, she pays attention to whats on the walls and looks at her toys, almost as if she really appreciates the work her mummy and daddy put in.  All in all I am so happy with this room- and am happy with the decisions we made (that baby bath is a dream!!!!)

My wedding dress is still tucked away in its box :)
